Growing Kratom Guide

This guide includes everything you need to know about growing Kratom. By  the end of this guide, you will know How to grow Kratom. I will list my recommendations for Soil, Lights, Fertilizers, And other soil additive that will help your Kratom plants grow, and thrive.

What Type Of Soil Works Best For Growing Kratom

This is the type of soil that I recommend, Because Kratom plants prefer to have well draining soil. If your soil doesn't drain well, you can add Perlite to the mix. You may also want to add vermiculite, especially if you live in an extremely dry/hot climate. The Vermiculite will help retain even more moisture, and the Perlite will help keep the soil loose and well draining. When growing Kratom, remember to keep the soil well draining.

This is the brand name of soil that I recommend for growing Kratom. I have always had really good results from using this brand. I will sometimes add extra Perlite to the soil mix, to make it drain even better. Adding additional perlite is optional with this brand of soil, because it does contain a good amount of Perlite in the mix. If you want to add more, you can. If you are using Organic soil, make sure to use Organic Perlite. This means that you shouldn't buy the perlite that says "Enriched with Miracle-Gro" on the packaging.

Which Fertilizer Is Best For Growing Kratom?

If you want your Kratom to grow fast, You need to use the right fertilizer. I have tested many different types of fertilizers when growing Kratom over the years. Some of the most available and popular brands don't work too well for Growing Kratom. Sometimes they can even stunt the growth if the ratios are off too much. It's important for them to have the right Fertilizers and adding minerals is also very beneficial, more on this later.

This is the type of fertilizer that I recommend for growing Kratom. You can mix this organic fertilizer directly into your soil. Mix it really well before placing your Kratom plants into their new containers. If you already have your Kratom plants in their new containers, you can always top dress the soil with a teaspoon of fertilizer every weeks, as long as they are actively growing. This means, you can just dust or sprinkle the fertilizer over the tops of the soil. Make sure to spread it evenly over the top of the soil and slightly away from the trunk of the Kratom plant.  If you are going to top dress the fertilizer, start with using about 1 tsp for 8" containers. You can even use less and wait a week to see new growth. Once you start seeing new growth on your Kratom plants, you can begin to add more fertilizers once every 7-14 days. Do not feed them much in the winter months, unless they are growing fast in a warm location.

The Recommended Soil Additives For Growing Kratom

You can really boost up the growth rate of your Kratom plants by adding a few things to the soil mix. Many people think that because Kratom plants are actually trees, that they cannot grow fast, This is a myth. Kratom plants can grow very fast if giving the right soil, fertilizers, and additives.

I highly recommend using Rock Dust in your soil mix. Rock Dust is full of minerals that will boost the overall health of the Kratom plant, making it more resistant to disease and pests, You can think of it as a multi-vitamin for plants. This is a very important step to building long term soil health. Click Here For My Recommend Brand Of Rock Dust.

Green Sand is also a good source for nutrients that Kratom plants will really like. Green Sand contains silica, iron, magnesium, and as many as +30 other trace minerals, which will allow your Kratom plants to thrive. Green sand will also help loosen the soil and help with drainage. Green sand is not the same type of sand you find at your local beach. Green sand is used in horticulture for a very good reason. It helps the overall health of your plants. Healthy plants grow faster and are much more resistant to pests, disease and other problems.

Kelp Meal is also a good soil additive for growing Kratom. It's completely organic and breaks down very well in the soil that I recommended above. Once the kelp is mixed into your soil, it will begin to break down over time, releasing nitrogen and other trace minerals.

All of these additives have their own benefits and by using a variety of them in the soil mix, you are adding a wider spectrum of minerals and nutrients to your soil. This will keep your soil healthy for a long time. Kratom plants can be picky sometimes, especially when it comes to soil and fertilizers. It is important to do it right from the start, to avoid any problems. You want your plants to have a healthy start while they are smaller plants. This will allow them to thrive and grow into full maturity.

How To Replant Kratom Plants Into New Containers.

If you're growing Kratom and it's currently in a 4"-6" container, I would recommend replanting them into either 6" or 8" container, if the plant is becoming root bound. This will help the plants root system to grow out in the soil and become better established. If you plant a smaller Kratom tree into a very large container, the roots will sometimes grow straight to the bottom of the container and become root bound, this is not good. It is always best to replant into a container that is slightly larger than the previous one.

If you are planning on growing Kratom trees that are large, I would recommend using these Grow Bags/Smart Pots, because they will air prune the root system. Air pruning causes the root system to push out new roots where it is less crowded in the soil. You will not have problems with them becoming root bound, In fact many plant nursery’s will only use Grow Bags for their larger trees, because the trees won't become root bound, and they don't have to continuously replant into larger containers.

You can also use these larger smart pots for smaller trees, just don't fill the bags up all of the way, instead fold the sides down to the size that you prefer, depending on your Kratom plant size. Once the plants are growing larger, you can unfold the bags and add more soil in the bottom.

Tips For Growing Kratom

  1. Don't use Miracle Grow Soil.
  2. Make sure your soil is well draining.
  3. Replant Kratom trees into slightly larger containers, once they start to become root bound, not huge containers(they may cause root rot if they hold too much water for too long).
  4. Add different variations of Trace Minerals to your soil mix, Rock Dust.
  5. Don't be discouraged by the Online rumors that "Kratom is hard to grow" It's actually not hard, especially if you follow this grow guide. Most of these rumors are started by the people wanting to sell you the dried leaves. They do not want you to grow your own at home.

What Are The Differences In Each Of The Kratom Plant Strains?

If you are unfamiliar with the different types of Kratom plants, that's okay. There is a video that will explain the differences in detail.

The Super Green Malaysian Kratom Strain favors shade more so than the others. They do not tolerate full sun light grow conditions, because the leaves can get burned. Grow the SGM in partial shade and use this guide to make the best soil and it will thrive.

The Red Vein Thai Plant known as RIFAT Kratom is the most hardy strain. It can tolerate full sunlight, strong rain and wind. This is the recommended plant to start of with for beginners. It grows really fast as well, if the soil is prepared well.

Red Vein Thai RVT strain has more red in the leaves, more so than Rifat. This plant prefers partial shade like the SGM.

Pink Vein Indonesian strain is almost as hardy as the Rifat strain, but not quite. It still a very hardy plant that will tolerate full sunlight once adapted and will thrive in the heat and full sun. PVI has pink veins on the undersides of the leaves. While it is growing rapidly, the entire bottom of the leaves will turn to a total pink color, just just the leaf veins.

The Bumblebee strain is very similar to Rifat and sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference. The main difference is that this plant will tend to bush out sooner than the Rifat strain.

All of these strains are heavy feeders, you should make sure to use the recommended fertilizer in this guide, so they continue to grow strong and do no develop any nutrient deficiencies.

You will see the variations of Kratom plants, mainly their leaves and growth rates. Some of the stains are a bit more picky, while others are better for beginner growers. Rifat is probably the best bet for a beginner, because it is very forgiving.

Where To Find Kratom Plants

If you do not have your plants yet, you can search for Kratom plants for sale which should bring you right to EthnoDirect. They have all 5 Kratom plant strains, Super Green Malay, Rifat, Red Vein Thai, Bumblebee and even the rare Pink Vein Indo. These plants are normally listed and available. They are packaged professionally and extremely well, so you don't have to worry about spilled soil in the box or broken plants.

Which Grow Lights To Use For Kratom

A lot of people are interested in growing their Kratom plants indoors, but may not know which lights to use. I would recommend using a 150w HPS light, and include 4-6 6000k LED lights around the side for a wider spectrum of light, this will really boost the growth of these plants indoors. Don't even bother with the tube fluorescent lights, they may offer some growth but you won't be able to get that extremely fast growth that you get from the recommend lights. You can use these light clamps for your LED grow lights, This will allow you to position the light right above your Kratom plants.

Growing Kratom Indoors In The Winter

In this section I will talk about everything you need to know and what supplies you will need for growing Kratom indoors in the cold winter months.

If you want to keep your Kratom plants growing fast and pushing out new growth during those cold months, keep reading.

This method will be very useful, especially for people who live in the northern states of the US, or anywhere that gets cold during the winter. If you are in zone 3-6, it is highly recommended to have and use a grow tent. But don't just purchase any grow tent, because many of them off gas and can kill your Kratom plants. The right equipment is important to keep your Kratom growing healthy and strong. You need to keep the temperature above 65-75F to keep them from going dormant. If they go dormant, you're not going to get that constant growth until spring. If they do dormant they use less water and then you have the risk of over watering and killing your Kratom plant.

This is the grow tent that i highly recommend, Click here.
This tent doesn't off gas. It is highly reflective and keeps the environment perfect. Your Kratom will continuously grow strong and happy.

How To Grow Kratom Hydroponically

If you're thinking about growing Kratom in a hydroponic system, I would recommend buying a professional Set up. This one works really well for Growing Kratom. You can tell it's a good one because it has excellent reviews and you really can't beat that price.

    1. They grow very fast considering they are trees. If you're using a grow tent, you can expect rapid growth on your kratom trees.

  3. Hey, I really appreciate the info. So I received 2 kratom plants about 2 months back. I made a greenhouse, heated humidifier, grow lights etc. I took so much care for them but they both died. I live in Idaho, its 30 degrees and 2 feet of snow outside right now so its cold but I tried keeping them about 75 at all times. They were indoors. Both of them withered and turned black, leaves dropped. It sucked. I have another two on the way and I don't want to make the same mistake. I just got the soil, rock dust and the plant food you listed. I am wondering why this happened and I was wondering if it could be the heated humidifier. Should I get a normal humidifier and just keep the GH above 75 with a heater? Also, I heard water is a big part. I used distilled water to water but used tap water for the humidifier because I would go thru litters a day and it would be hard to buy that much distilled all the time. I also didn't really know how much to water. Some people said they grow in swamp conditions, so water a ton and some said only keep the soil most? Sorry for asking so many question but you sound like you have done this a bunch and I just don't want to make the same mistake. I love what Kratom does, it has helped me a ton and plus its a beautiful plant, it sucked watching them die slowly not knowing what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I am will receive my plants Thursday. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

    1. If you live in a cold climate, I suggest growing them indoors and use a high quality grow tent. The grow tend that i recommend in the guide is the best one I've come across. It is highly reflective, holds in the heat really well. The growth you will see from your Kratom trees will be extremely impressive. They will grow very fast in that tent. You should also use a high output light. I suggest 150w hps for a single plant, 250-400w, if you plant on growing a lot of them.
